08.11.2011Asja wait for you at Ecomondo

Asja usual appointment at  Ecomondo Key Energy's Rimini Fair this year will take place from November 9th to 12th.

During this edition, Asja will present its 7 photovoltaic plants built and put into operation in 2011, its first vegetable oil plant built in Rivoli, near its headquarters and the new biogas plant with 5,7 MW of installed power whose opening took place last July in Belo Horizonte (Brazil). Asja will also present its research projects about the possibility of developing energy from  agri-food industry waste, which it is pursuing with some of the leading Italian Universities and primary food companies.

Asja sales and technical engineers will also be at visitors’ disposal to explore possible partnerships, aiming to a steady development of renewable energies in our Country.

We look forward to meeting you at our stall in pavilion D3, stand 120.

14.07.2011Clean energy for Brazil

14th July, 2011
Opening of Belo Horizonte Landfill Plant (Brazil) for the greenhouse gases emission reduction.

The plant was designed and constructed by Asja through the Consorzio Horizonte Asja and the cooperation of the Town Administration of Belo Horizonte, location to Asja’s offices in Brazil.

Closed down in 2007, the Belo Horizonte landfill  used to collect around 4 thousand tons of waste a day from the homes of 4 million residents. The 25 million tons currently dumped there  produce biogas through fermentation in a gas mixture which is about 50% methane. In addition to being extremely flammable, this gas is also harmful for the environment, as it has a 21 times higher impact on the greenhouse effect than CO2! The plant captures and detroys landfill biogas thus preventing all problems that may arise from its dispersion into the atmosphere: bad smell, fire risks, increased greenhouse effect. Given its preventive effect on harmful gas emissions – with 4 million tons of CO2 prevented from impacting the environment over 15 years – the plant fully meets all requirements under the Kyoto Protocol, hence its registration to the United Nations Executive Board as CDM - Clean Development Mechanism project. (n. 3464).

The plant uses the biogas from anaerobial waste fermentation to fuel 3 motors generating 1.426 kW power each, for an overall 4.278 kW. An additional fourth motor is already on schedule for September increasing the total installed capacity to 5.000 kW. In terms of installed capacity, this biogas plant ranks first in the Minas Gerais state and amongst top 5 in Brazil.

The approximately 2.750 MWh of energy produced per month is sold to CEMIG, the state owned power company, under a four year agreement. CEMIG is listed in the New York Dow Jones sustainability index.

Asja has already signed new agreements to build and manage two similar plants in Uberlandia (third largest town in Minas Gerais for number of residents) and Natal (Capital of the Rio Grande do Norte state) each under a partnership with the local company handling the landfill and owning the right to use biogas therefrom. These two new sites are scheduled for commissioning in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

Asja has been designing, building and managing plants to reduce climate-altering emissions for 16 years now,  providing concrete environmental benefits for the areas where it works. We all wish now that our activities in Brazil can further expand, bringing about economic benefits and new jobs through project implementation, concluded Asja’s corporate President  Agostino Re Rebaudengo.
