Nitrogen protoxide

Nitrogen protoxide (N2O) is a gas with a powerful harmful impact on the climate (its Greenhouse Potential is 310, that is to say a kg of N2O causes the same climate-altering effect as 310 kg of CO2). This gas is generated as a by-product of industrial chemical processes, e.g. in the preparation of nitrogenated fertilizers and fatty acids. Research and industry are searching for technologies to abate this gas in the plants where it is released; a number of different possible solutions (catalysts, membranes)  as well as levels for action (primary, secondary, tertiary or even quaternary according to which production process stage abatement technology is applied to) have been identified.
Specifically, Asja is interested in developing and testing N2O abatement technology for the aforementioned industrial plant types.
